Lessons Should be Learned in Xinjiang from the Unrest in Middle East

A top official of China stated on Tuesday that China must learn from the unrest in Middle East in applying it to Xinjiang having majority Muslim population but was also quite confident that it will remain stable.

According to Zhang Chunxian who was appointed party chief year back stability was proportional to making sure that every person would be benefitting from the economic growth of the country which was a major government strategy.  He was total confident regarding the stability in Xinjiang and did not have any worry.  He also remarked that still he must be learning lessons from the unrest currently going on in Middle East on the technical grounds although he didn’t mention the lessons.

China has tried to avoid any protest like Middle East and defending the control by one party had been on priority since the demonstrations carried in 1989 in favor of democracy.

According to Amnesty International China was carrying a crackdown against protest in Xinjiang and targeting those who spoke on the internet against the policies of the government and were involved in writing about political activities.

Many people were rounded up by Police in China after messages which were online from outside encouraged gathering in favor of democracy being inspired by the revolutions in Middle East.

There is heavy deployment of police and tight control in Xinjiang as the discontent continues in Muslim people against the Beijing’s rule.

Ethnic violence was carried out in 2009 in Urumqi which is the capital of the region killing around 200 people.  Beijing has turned its focus there in increasing more job opportunities and development.

Zhang commented that to ensure long term stability it should be ensured that the natives enjoy the benefits from country’s reforms which started three decades back.
