Former Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi had not been killed by the rebels, but by a French secret agent, on the order of former President Nicolas Sarkozy, according to Daily Mail, which quotes former Libyan prime minister, Mahmoud Jibril, and several other diplomats from Tripoli.

The man sent by Sarkozy would have infiltrated among protesters and would have killed Gaddafi to prevent him from being questioned about “highly dubious links” with former French head of state, says the source.

Daily Mail states that other leading Western politicians such as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair were very close to Gaddafi and visited him often. Gaddafi, whom Sarkozy pampered as “leader brother” would have funded with millions of dollars the 2007 presidential campaign of the former leader at the Elysee Palace.

The source notes that the new information on the killing of Gaddafi is worrying for Western countries that have sent troops in the North African country and claimed that the only reason for the assassination of Gaddafi was to “saving civilian lives”.

The theory published by British journalists is based on information provided by former interim Prime Minister of Libya, Mahmoud Jibril, who said that Gaddafi has been killed by a “foreign agent”. Diplomats in Tripoli claim that the agent who killed the former head of state was French.

“Once NATO announced that it supports the revolution in Libya, Gaddafi threatened to reveal details of his relationship with former French president, including the millions of dollars that he invested in his presidential campaign. Therefore, Sarkozy had every reason possible to silence Gaddafi as quickly as possible,” said diplomatic sources.

Mahmoud Jibril, the former interim Prime Minister of Libya said for the Egyptian TV station: “It was a foreign agent who mixed with the revolutionary brigades to kill Gaddafi.”

Gaddafi was tracked down when he used his satellite phone to talk with his “friend” Bashar-al-Assad, who is still in power in Syria. NATO jets attacked Gaddafi convoy and helped the rebels to capture Gaddafi, who was then killed.

Nicolas Sarkozy has repeatedly denied that he received money from Gaddafi, but he’s facing an investigation in France for financial irregularities.
