Muammar Gadhafi’s secret service had close links with the CIA and MI6

GadhafiSecret files discovered by Human Rights Watch in Tripoli showed a close cooperation between British intelligence, American and Libyan secret services during Muammar Qadhafi’s regime, reports Sky News.

These files show that British intelligence service MI6 and the CIA  agency had a regular dialogue with Libyan secret services, particularly with Musa Kusa, former head of Libyan intelligence service and ex-foreign minister of Gadhafi’s, who fled to United Kingdom earlier this year. The documents were discovered in his office in Tripoli.

One file details a record of Britain help to draw a speech of Colonel Qadhafi. Another one contains information about the meeting of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair with Muammar Gadhafi in 2004 and suggests that the British Government came up with the idea for the meeting to take place in a tent.

The files also contain evidence that the U.S. used Libya as a basis for extraordinary rendition program provided the transfer abroad of prisoners deemed a threat to U.S. national security.

Human rights organizations consider that the real purpose of this program was torturing these prisoners outside the jurisdiction of the United States.

There are no indications that Britain would have been involved in this process, but allegations from secret files have emerged that British intelligence services have offered counterparts in Libya information about dissidents living in the UK at the time.

British Foreign Ministry said that he does not comment on intelligence and national security issues.
