Doctors nutritionists and fitness trainers around the world have been contending on the vital necessity of sport in each person’s life. And people seem to have understood, but not well enough – the number of men and women that practice exercises at least every once every few days has increased, but overall things are still becoming more critical. One in 10 deaths in the world is caused by a sedentary life. A sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of colon cancer, breast cancer, heart disease and, especially, obesity and diabetes.
Especially in the Western world where people are not exposed to daily exercise, like in the past times. Today, modern person is no longer required to walk, cut wood or wash clothes with their hands. You’ll find modern people (in general) sit in front of a computer, on a chair, and for other needs they just have to press a few buttons to increase or decrease the temperature in the house, or do the laundry or warm up the food. We could say that we pay tribute to evolution. Especially given that each of us has inherited from the ancestors of prehistoric times genetic programming to gain weight easily to face hunger, cold, or adverse conditions of nature.
Sedentary life is literally killing us, say U.S. researchers. They even sent a warning a just few days before the Olympics in London: physical inactivity is responsible for 1 in 10 deaths worldwide. Scientists at Boston University and the University of Texas said that in 2008 the sedentary lifestyle led to 5.3 million deaths – as many as those caused by tobacco. “The role of physical inactivity on health is still undervalued despite solid evidence known for over 60 years,” said Dr. Harold W. Kohl, University of Texas.
Also, physical exercise prevents and improves diseases like Alzheimer’s, depression, osteoporosis. American researchers have returned to this subject just to remind us constantly that the World Health Organization recommends regular exercise – adapted to the possibilities for everyone – for 30 minutes each day.
