Sex, pornography and alcohol at US Treasury

US Department of the TreasuryInvestigations at the US Department of the Treasury revealed details not appropriate for this institution. Some employees often accessed erotic sites, hired hookers to entertain them and accepted “gifts” from various bank executives. Journalists from Business Insider looked among documents compiled by governmentattic.org about employees of US Treasury. The word “sex” is most often used in the employees’ searches on the Internet, while “hookers” and “alcohol” appear in the seven reports of the investigation.

Eric Thorson, Inspector General for the US Treasury Department, said for The Hill that “many organizations have people doing stupid things.” Many of the charges against employees proved to be unfounded or were overlooked, as evidenced by documents. A manager of Office of Currency Control has been accused of sex with a subordinate. The two were caught by security staff having sex in the office and on the staircase. It was later decided that the incident should not be investigated.

In 2009, another employee of the Treasury, under the influence of alcohol, tried to enter the UNC stadium with alcohol, which is prohibited. The man, stopped and identified by a police officer, had an inappropriate behavior. The employee admitted the offense and the inspector general concluded that he violated Treasury policies. An investigation in 2010 revealed that an OCM bank examiner accepted “gifts” from various bank executives when many institutions were examined. No criminal charges were pressed.

An employee who dealt with contracting private companies didn’t inform the state that her husband worked for one of these companies. It was also discovered that she accepted “gifts” from various companies to influence her decision. Moreover, she gave false statements during the investigation, but the investigation has not resulted in criminal charges. An IT specialist from the OCM, was accused by a former employee of sexual harassment. Investigators found no evidence to support charges.

Another employee of the Treasury used the internet at work to look for prostitutes on Craigslist. The documents also show that he was surfing erotic sites every week. Apparently the man used Treasury money to pay for hotel rooms where he had sexual encounters. He resigned after the investigation.
