A Syrian member o Parliament announced Saturday on Al Jazeera television station his decision to resign from the legislature, in protest against the killing of anti-government demonstrators, reports Reuters. Another one joined him shortly.
“When I failed to protect my children from bullets, there is no point for me to remain in parliament. I announced my resignation”, said Naser al-Hariri.
Later, his colleague, Khalil Al-Rifai announced his resignation due to killing of demonstrators. “Security solutions do not work” – he said.
Resignations occur in the context in which at least 80 people were killed Friday during repression of the anti-government demonstrations, according to human rights organizations, which have sparked the outrage of the international community. Saturday at least eight people were shot while taking part in Friday’s funeral of victims of repression.
An official of the Syrian regime who was not identified, quoted by the official Sana agency, said that authorities in Damascus regret President Barack Obama’s statements about Syria, “as they are not based on an objective view of the real facts”.
United States President, Barack Obama, has condemned Friday the “outrageous use of violence” by the regime of Bashar al-Assad, accusing it of trying to get aid from Iran and punish its own people.
