The Last Landing for the Discovery Space Shuttle

The American space shuttle Discovery with six astronauts on board managed to land Saturday on the International Space Station (ISS), NASA confirmed.

The landing, the last one for the oldest American space shuttle, as the shuttle program will be stopped, took place at 19.14 GMT, two minutes earlier than planned, NASA TV commentator said.

Discovery was launched Thursday from Kennedy Space Center near Cape Canaveral (Southeast Florida) with six astronauts on board, including a woman.

This is the 39th and final flight of Discovery, marking the beginning of the end of the of the shuttle program. There remain to be performed only two flights on 19 April, the next one by the Endeavour and the 135th and the last one, if NASA will have the required budget, scheduled for Atlantis at the end of June.
