World Health Organization (WHO) announced that health risks of Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in Japan are not “higher today than yesterday”, although Japanese authorities have increased the gravity of the nuclear crisis to the peak.
“Health risk assessment has not changed for the areas located closer than 40 miles from the center”, said a WHO spokesman, Gregory Hartl, adding that the measures taken by the Japanese authorities “seem sufficient for now”.
“What happens is that they have new estimates on the total level of radiation”, because “they combined the radiation from reactors no.1, 2 and 3”, he explained.
It remains to be watched closely as the situation may evolve any time, admitted Hartl.
