War Crimes: Three Arrest Warrants for Tripoli Leaders

Luis Moreno-Ocampo, prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), announced today the UN Security Council that he will request the issuance of three arrest warrants for crimes against humanity committed in Libya, informs AFP. “The Guardian” writes that the leader from Tripoli, Muammar Gadhafi, is the first targeted by these warrants.

Gadhafi regime has committed war crimes against Libyan demonstrators, systematically opening fire on peaceful protestors, says the report issued by the ICC prosecutor, who announced that he will ask for warrants to arrest the three leaders in Tripoli.

The British newspaper “The Guardian” writes that one of the three persons targeted by the warrants is Muammar Gadhafi. His brother in law, intelligence chief, Abdullah Senussi, could also be targeted by the ICC.

“Crimes against humanity continue to be committed in Libya”, said today Luis Moreno-Ocampo. “Their efforts in hiding crimes have made it difficult to draw up an account of the people killed “, he added. “The dead people were took away from the streets and hospitals”, specified the prosecutor.

The prosecutor added that he will investigate the death of dozens of Africans in the rebels’ capital, Benghazi, killed by an “angry mob” who believed that they were mercenaries in the pay of Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi.
