Water is healthy, but could be dangerous for some women

Women drinking waterThe obsession of the amount of water to be drunk throughout the day has turned into a true way of life for some women, as noted by the Daily Mail.

An example is given for British Sasha Kennedy, aged 26 years, whose life was turned upside down by her obsession: she can drink 22 liters of water per day. Her relationship with family, her career and sleep have been affected by this addiction, because she can’t quench her thirst even at night.

Celebrities are to blame

Experts say that water, considered the most simple drink can be as dangerous as drugs or alcohol. “There are stories of women who drink more than 40 glasses of water a day suffering from addiction to water,” said the Daily Mail.

Water has become “assimilated” as well being for many women because of the many celebrities who extol its benefits, claiming that it helps to eliminate toxins and to improve skin appearance. For example, Nicole Kidman says that she drinks several glasses of water a day to keep fit, and this is not the only famous case: Demi Moore, Sharon Stone have been also flirting with…  water.

“More and more women, influenced by such VIP stories, have increased their daily water intake to a dangerous level for the body”, says journalists.

It can be fatal

“I think that may have been subconsciously influenced by all the articles from magazines, where you can read about actresses and models that say that the secret of their health is the amount of water they drink,” says Natasha Collins-Daniel, another dependent on the water, for the Daily Mail.

Health experts recommend 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. But too much can be fatal, there were cases of death from water intoxication. Obsession with water is a less studied disorder by doctors and specialists, but may have major health risks.

“Although water dependence is not yet recognized and listed as a “disease”, experts believe that the habit of drinking excess water is an obsessive behavior,” the Daily Mail notes. “I’m obsessed with water. When I drink, I convince myself that I’m thirsty. If I don’t drink, I’m apathetic, but I’m sure it’s a more mental feeling than physical,” says Natasha Collins-Daniel.

Too much water can be dangerous for the heart and the body will eliminate vitamins through frequent urination. “If you need to drink plenty of water, you should take these symptoms seriously because it can be a sign of diabetes,” writes the Daily Mail.
