White House postponed the publishing of photos that are proof that Osama bin Laden was killed, despite increasingly vocal calls coming from politicians and ordinary Americans.
Pictures of the Bin Laden’s corpse are “terrible” as described by the White House spokesman, Jay Carney, this evening.
“The publication of photographs of Osama Bin Laden is still a sensitive issue and we’re considering whether to take this step”, Carney said in a press briefing, AFP writes.
According to him, the question that the U.S. administration is trying to answer is whether the dissemination of images “will benefit our interests, not only here, but throughout the world”.
The biggest fears are that their distribution could further inflame the Muslim world, notes LA Times. A U.S. official claimed today that some of Osama bin Laden’s skull came off, after the bullet hit him above the left eye.
Asked by journalists about the nature of photos, Carney said: “it is a terrifying image”. However, the official refused to say if he saw the photographs.
Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was not armed when U.S. special forces have stormed the complex where he was in living in Pakistan, but he resisted arresting before being shot, said Carney.
