Wives of Mubarak’s Sons Will be Questioned on Their Wealth

Spouses of former President Hosni Mubarak sons will be questioned next week in an investigation on their wealth, a judicial source said Thursday.

“Deputy Justice Minister Assem al- Gohari gave orders that Haidi Rassekh, Alaa Mubarak’s wife, and Khadiga al-Gammal, Gamal’s wife to be questioned on Tuesday (…) in connection to their enrichment and origin of their wealth”, said the source.

Haidi Rassekh and Khadiga al-Gammal are the daughters of very wealthy businessmen.

Alaa and Gamal Mubarak were arrested and are in custody at Tora prison in Cairo, for an investigation on the repression of the revolt that led to the removal from power in February of their father and on suspicion of corruption.

Removed from power under the pressure from the street on February 11, Hosni Mubarak, aged 82, was hospitalized on 12 April after an interrogation on the repression of demonstrations in January and February, when 846 people were killed, according to an official report.

Mubarak is currently at the International Hospital of Sharm el-Sheikh, a Red Sea resort, under house arrest. He was placed in custody for 15 days for the investigation of violent repression of the revolt. Mubarak will also be subject of another investigation for corruption.

The health of Hosni Mubarak, aged 82, is “unstable”, the official agency Mena announced on Thursday, citing a medical source at the hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, where the former Egyptian president has been placed on remand.

Mubarak “is still in the room 309 of the hospital and his condition is unstable,” said this source.

This announcement comes while the Egyptian General Prosecutor said that it is studying a possible transfer of Mubarak to a prison or a prison hospital, depending on the health of the former president.
