Yemeni Army, Accused of Killing Four Demonstrators and Wounding Another Seven

Four demonstrators were killed and seven wounded when Yemeni soldiers opened fire on demonstrators on Friday in Semla city, located 170 km north of Sanaa, a local official said.

“Two of the nine injured have died”, said the local government official, adding that the death toll is now four.

Earlier, a representative of Shiite rebellion declared that “two demonstrators were killed and nine others wounded” by trucks of soldiers, who took military position against a rally demanding the departure of President Ali Abdallah Saleh.

Shiite Rebellion said on its website that the army trucks had made “dozens of casualties”, dead and wounded, without offering a precise balance.

Shiite Rebellion in northern Yemen joined the protest movement in the country, which required for several weeks the leaving of President Saleh, in power for 32 years.
