Amazon Unveils New Kindle Tablets, Upgrades Kindle Fire HDX Tablet

Amazon Kindle VoyageAmazon on Wednesday unveiled six new Kindle tablets and e-readers, including an updated Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 tablet and the Kindle Voyage. The new Amazon Kindle devices were announced during a media event in New York, along with a press release on their official website.

According to Amazon, the Kindle Voyage is the thinnest e-reader ever at 7.6 mm. and weighs less than 6.4 ounces. Among its key features include PagePress, which allows readers to turn pages by pressing lightly one of the sides of the device. It comes with a sharper Paperwhite display that has a 300 pixel-per-inch (ppi) resolution, which promises the highest contrast and highest brightness of any Kindle.

This all-new Kindle design sports a powerful 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and the longest battery life any Kindle has introduced. It uses a new front light sensor that automatically dims its display in the long run based on the reader’s viewing environment. This seventh-generation Kindle costs $199. Kindle Voyage comes with 3G connectivity and has 4-GB memory storage.

Amazon also announced the $79 Kindle, which has only 167 ppi resolution. This low-end Kindle has no built-in reading light, and offers a touch interface powered by infrared sensors. Nevertheless, this 4-GB device promises a 20% faster processor and twice the storage capacity than its predecessor, the $69 Kindle model. On the other hand, the blockbuster Kindle Paperwhite remains at $119 but now has twice the amount of storage than before.

The giant online marketplace also unveiled its upgraded Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, which looks exactly like its predecessor and also has the same price of $379. However, the device now has faster processor, and uses the new version of Amazon’s Fire OS 4 “Sangria” that has new and upgraded features. This improved Kindle Fire sports a 2.5 GHz processor, an HDX display with a 339 ppi resolution,

Meanwhile, two new Kindle Fire HD devices were also announced. The devices come in 6 and 7 inches, with a price of $99 and $139, respectively. Both of them have the same designs and features, including a quad-core processor and front- and rear-facing camera. They also offer over 33 million movies, TV shows, books, songs, books, Android apps and games, as well as exclusive features from Kindle.

Pre-orders for all the new Amazon devices are now available and shipment will start next month, October.
