Tom CruiseTom Cruise intended as a teenager to become a Catholic priest, but was expelled from the seminary where he was studying after he was caught stealing alcohol. Tom Cruise is currently one of the most prominent members of the Scientology cult, but before becoming a Hollywood star, his religious beliefs were quite different. He was a devout Catholic teenager who planned to become a priest and studied at a Franciscan seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Tom Cruise was kicked out of the very strict religious school, after stealing alcohol from the priests of the institution’s management, according to his best friend at the time. The actor, whose real name is Thomas Cruise Mapother IV has had a difficult childhood because of his father, described by Tom Cruise as a “merchant of chaos.”

It seems that Tom has found solace in a Roman Catholic seminary and was persuaded to apply to St. Francis Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, by Father Ric Schneider. “Tom was immediately captivated,” said the priest. “I think he wanted to get a good education. His parents were divorcing and it was a difficult time for him. Perhaps this is why he came here.” The teenager Cruise was admitted to the seminary in 1976, scoring 110 points in an IQ test – the minimum score to be accepted into the seminary.

In the two years he spent at the seminar, Tom Cruise was one of the most active members of the drama club and participated enthusiastically in artistic competitions with other religious institutions. His best friend from seminary, Shane Dempler, says that they were both very committed and wanted to become priests. However, the two frequently violated institution rules and were sneaking out of the building seminar to smoke and drink alcohol.

The incident after which both were ordered to leave the St. Francis Seminary occurred in 1977, when Tom Cruise and Shane Dempler decided to profit from the fact that the priests of the seminar were to organize a party. Shane Dempler went to the room where the alcoholic beverages for the party were stored and threw his good friend a few bottles. The two were caught when other students were caught drunk and were forced to confess. The seminar contacted Cruise’s and Dempler’s families, telling them that they don’t want the boys to return to the seminar.

The actor later converted to the Scientology cult, quite popular in the world of Hollywood actors. It is believed that Tom Cruise is currently one of the most powerful members of the cult, while being an “advocate” of the controversial religious organization.
